ELLSWORTH AMERICAN — Five years and $79.9 million later, Maine’s public schools are swimming in laptop computers. Laptop computers are an essential language arts learning tool for Ellsworth Middle School seventh-graders as they finalize their writing assignments under the direction of teacher Jane Stackpole. — STAFF PHOTO BY TOM WALSH In 2002, the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) began putting laptop computers with wireless Internet capability into the hands of every seventh- and eighth-grader in Maine’s public school system.
