eb ISTE Advocacy State and National
The International Society for Technology in Educationwww.iste.org has a grand array of advocacy initiatives in both the National and State arenas. They rely on their many affiliates to lead State legislative initiatives for eLearningi adoption. In Arizona, it is Arizona Technology for Education Alliance www.aztea.org.
Their State advocacy site has a plethora of advocacy support materials http://www.iste.org/Template.cfm?Section=Advocacy, including check lists and PowerPoints on how to address all levels of the Education communityi and business and policy leaders.
Of special interest, to you who would like to rattle Washington’s cage, is the Ed Tech Action Network (ETAN) http://www.edtechactionnetwork.org/. In April of this year, ETAN had a two-day workshop in Washington for State advocates who participated in Congressional advocacy. ETAN is supported by ISTE and Consortium of School Networking, CoSN,www.cosn.org/. The North American Council for Online Learning www.nacol.org/ and State NACOL and State Educational Technology Directors Association www.setda.org/ are active allies. ETAN has a Washington office and a strong set of lobbyists who carry the educational technology message to Congress.
Contact ETAN and get involved! They can always use grassroots support, although only one member of our Arizona Delegation is on an Education committee. We need more participation!
